Standard of Practice Public Comment Update
The Standard of Practice (SoP) committee has been diligently working on the most significant update to ASHI's SoP in over twenty years. The SoP is a critical document that underpins everything home inspectors do. The proposed changes are open again for Public Comment.This is the second public comment period for the proposed SoP changes and ends on December 10th. If affirmed, the new SoP will have an implementation date, allowing ample time for adjustment. The ASHI Standard of Practice was an essential tool in defining home inspection as a recognized profession and gain traction within the real estate market. Refined over the years, the Standard remains an influential document across the industry, and ASHI Members continue to adhere to the Standard today.
The document is divided into specific home systems and details how home inspectors should inspect each component. The ASHI Standard of Practice helps guide the inspector during the home inspection, and ensure their client will receive a thorough and effective inspection. ASHI encourages everyone involved with the home buying process to review the Standard of Practice to understand the home inspector's role in the process.
Standards of Practice Artificial Intelligence Policy
The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) prohibits the entry of ASHI standards and related ASHI intellectual property (“ASHI IP”) into any form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as ChatGPT. Additionally, creating derivatives of ASHI IP using AI is also prohibited without express written permission from ASHI. In the case of such use, ASHI will suspend a licensee’s access to ASHI IP, and further legal action will be considered.
